In 2004, The Clinton Foundation partnered with the American Heart Association to create the Alliance for a Healthier Generation. When Clinton found himself the recipient of a quadruple bypass, he grew increasingly concerned about the health and welfare of the next generation. Hoping to end the childhood obesity epidemic in schools, AHG began offering grants to the schools with high obesity rates, information, healthier menus, educating exercise, and support to students and school staff. They accept no funding from food and beverage companies.
In November 2012, Bill Clinton announced the launch of the Clinton Health Matters Initiative (CHMI). CHMI is a national initiative, building on the Clinton Foundation’s work on global health and childhood obesity, that works to improve the health and well-being of people across the United States by activating individuals, communities, and organizations to make meaningful contributions to the health of others.
